1. Terms of Use. The Correspondence Chess Message Board (TCCMB) is provided as a service to the worldwide correspondence chess community by CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM. Posters to TCCMB should familiarize themselves with the rules/explanations outlined below. By participating in TCCMB, you agree to its terms of use. It is also assumed that the owner of CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM assumes no legal responsibility/liability, whatsoever, for the content of postings on TCCMB. In fact, by participating in TCCMB, users specifically hold harmless any such legal responsibility/liability, regardless of the circumstances, concerning the owner of this domain, or any other person connected with it. Note: In order to post messages on TCCMB, you must obtain a password from the Admin. This request should be sent to the Admin email address (below) and be in the following format: Real Name: Real Email Address: Name(s) Used In Posts: Requests with incomplete or incorrect information will be ignored. Posting on TCCMB is a privilege and not a right. Use of handles or nicknames is strongly discouraged and may only be accepted in exceptional cases to be judged by the Admin. If you desire to use a handle, you must register it with the Admin - this information will be treated as confidential. When registering a handle, you must give your real name before being allowed to post with that handle. All postings with handles not previously registered with the Admin will be summarily deleted from TCCMB. Do not compromise the password given to you by giving it to anyone else! This will probably lead to permanent banning from TCCMB. If you lose the password provided to you by the Admin, simply request another one.
2. What is it? TCCMB is a forum for correspondence chess players from around the world to communicate and interact with each other in a real time environment. TCCMB is not affiliated or associated with any organisation, whatsoever. It is privately owned and operated. 3. Is it moderated or unmoderated? Unmoderated in the freedom of speech sense, although the administrator reserves the right to delete objectionable or multiple posts, along with SPAM. 4. Must postings be in English? As stated above, this board is intended to be international in scope, and there are no restrictions on the language to be used. 5. How long do posts and threads stay on the board? The posts on the main board will stay about 2 months depending on the amount of message traffic. 6. What types of posts are discouraged? a. SPAM of any kind, Personal attacks, multiple posts, and off-topic posts are strongly discouraged and will be deleted without any notice. Honest, frank discussions are encouraged. Before posting here, you should know the difference between criticism and personal attack... As long as your post is relevant to correspondence chess, and, to a lesser extent, chess, you have nothing to worry about here. Commercial offerings (chess-related) are welcomed, as well as other important announcements. With regards to commercial announcements, a link to a URL or e-mail address will be more welcome than the posting of an entire catalog on the board, for example. b. Postings about current disputes in games or tournaments are strongly discouraged, particularly if players', tournament directors', or organisers' real names are used in postings. Use proper channels for disputes - do not use TCCMB to engage in disputes regarding pending games or tournaments. When situations are discussed, they should be discussed in the abstract. The administrator, at his or her absolute discretion, may delete postings and threads which violate this paragraph. c. Postings containing or asking for confidential information. As publishing of confidential information might seriously hurt some individuals, organisations or business partners, these kinds of postings will be deleted without any announcement. Remember, this is a public forum. d. Identity theft. Proven cases of using another poster's name or email address in postings will lead to immediate, permanent banning. This obviously does not apply when copying an anonymous or fake name or email address of a poster. What is addressed in this paragraph is the deliberate theft of someone else's name or email address to impersonate or annoy them. e. Anonymous postings. Anonymous postings are strongly discouraged and will be held to a higher standard than postings using a real name. If you don't feel strong enough to sign your posting with your real name, consider not participating in TCCMB. f. Obscene postings. Obscene postings are always prohibited. In some cases, it may lead to permanent banning. Directing obscene comments towards the administrator on the forum will result in permanent banning. It is possible to be reinstated after violating this section, but not likely. Contact the admin to appeal being banned from posting on the forum. Administrator's Discretion. It is important for you to understand that the TCCMB Administrator has total discretion regarding the deletion (or editing) of postings. A good example of when editing, and not deletion, might be desired would be in the case of a posting which has considerable value, but which contains potentially inflammatory political or religious content which is off-topic to chess, or correspondence chess. The Administrator might decide to edit, instead of summarily delete, the posting, removing the offensive provisions. In all circumstances, the Administrator's decisions in such matters are final. 7. Can I subscribe to TCCMB by email? This is not possible, for privacy reasons. 8. How many people visit the board? It depends - several hundred to the low thousands of visitors a week. Novice players and those just starting an interest in cc are very welcome here. Don't be shy about posting - there is plenty of collected wisdom here, and your requests for information, questions, etc. will soon be answered by our many regulars. Note that membership is required to be able to post on TCCMB - viewing is of course possible without being a member. 9. How many postings per day are allowed per poster? Approximately 10 postings per day are allowed from each individual. Understanding that some days are busier than others, ten seems to be a number which is reasonable. The Admin has ultimate authority in this regard. Friends of TCCMB automatically have a daily limit of 15 postings per day. "Per day" is intended to reflect any 24-hour period, according to the server's clock. "Flooding" of the forum is discouraged. Flooding happens when you attempt to repeatedly make postings on the forum. Should this happen, you will be automatically barred from further posting. This is designed to prevent SPAM/worthless posting "attacks". Apply to the admin for reinstatement if this happens to you. 10. What happens to posters who violate this FAQ? Each case is handled individually. In some instances, a warning is issued. Should a warning not suffice, a poster can be suspended/barred from posting for a period of time deemed necessary. In all cases, the administrator is solely responsible for rules enforcement and appropriate measures, if necessary. Posting on TCCMB is a privilege, not a right. As in any community, civil behavior is expected by the members of the community at all times. The Admin is strongly discouraged from making personal opinion postings on the forum. His/her posting activity should normally be limited to announcements or issues related to the running of the forum, or web site announcement postings of interest to the general cc community under his or her own name. For misconduct, the Admin of TCCMB may be removed at any time by the owners/principal webmasters of CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM. 11. How may I make use of postings which appear on TCCMB? Postings on TCCMB should never be considered as being in the public domain. Common sense and a sense of fair play are paramount when referring to TCCMB posts. The overall copyright for TCCMB belongs to the owner of CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM - John C. Knudsen. Any entity outside of CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM desiring to utilize TCCMB postings should at a minimum contact the author, and also give proper credit to the source of the posting (TCCMB). Mirror sites or other copyright violations are prohibited and will be actively pursued; when in doubt, obtain permission first! 12. Who administers this board? The TCCMB Admin at http://correspondencechess.com. Questions can be directed to the admin at the following e-mail address: |
