THE QUEST FOR THE
WORLD CORRESPONDENCE CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

It's important to succeed in your first step, and I was very relieved to win the tournament. The lessons learned helped me in the future. Several of my wins in this tournament were hair raising (or hair losing) and I enjoy playing them over even today. The games are not perfect and might not be sound, but they are exciting. The evolution of my style came slowly as the competition became continuously stronger, and it became obvious that tactics by itself will not win many games.
