Beware of Romanians Bearing Roman Gifts!?

Book on Imperial Roman Coins (in Romanian)

My parents always cautioned me to beware of Romanians bearing Roman gifts. Imagine my surprise when I went to my mailbox this morning and found a parcel waiting for me from Romania.

After checking to make sure it was not booby-trapped (I have a fierce looking miniature Yorkshire named Nicky who I often use for this purpose), I decided to open it up, instead of throwing it into the junk mail pile. Boy, am I ever glad that I did.

An early birthday present! (My birthday is on April 1st).

Inside was a lovely birthday postcard with a chess/gangster motif (front and back to the left) and a book (in Romanian, naturally) about Roman Imperial coins...You can see the cover from the book on the left as well.

Reading the birthday card with greater scrutiny, I discovered that this was a true trans-atlantic conspiracy, involving Romanians, an American, and possibly a Canadian...I'm not quite sure how the WRG fits into all of this.

What a nice surprise - my dear friends were thinking about me.

Thank you Marius, Olimpiu, Grayling and Eugen - you really made my day!
