Anyone serious about correspondence chess will want this book for his or her library.
Editor/publisher Wright has produced a winner with this account of the 8th United States Correspondence Chess Championship (8th USCCC), which started in April 1990 and ended in April 1993. It begins with the story behind the book and follows through with a fascinating story of the history of the USCCC. Crosstables for the first seven finals are provided, the thirty-six preliminary sections of the 8th USCCC, and, of course, the 8th USCCC finals. Marc Lonoff and Eugene Martinovsky were 8th USCCC co-champions, each with a score of 9.5/13. Then follows a biographical section on the players, including an interview with Dr. Martinovsky.
Stephan Gerzadowicz and some of the players annotated the games. I'm sure my readers are familiar with the unique, witty, and profound annotating style of Mr. Gerzadowicz. He brings a game to life with his clear explanations of the openings and positions, and spices them with quotations to make us think. Some of the games are dually annotated, which is always a treat. It has been said that master correspondence chess is about original thinking, and you will find in the present volume a treasure chest full of ideas!
"There is nothing better for one's relaxation and wisdom than reading a well produced and entertaining book."
What more could we want, other than fighting correspondence chess brought to life by all of those involved in this project? This book is a must-have. It is in print. If you want to expand your correspondence chess horizons, you simply must obtain it.
